On April 14, 2016 the networking meeting between LIFE SAVING-E and Rubí Brilla took place. The meeting was held at the School of Engineering at UAB and focused on establishing future collaborations between the two projects. Rubí Brilla is one of the strategic projects promoted by the City of Rubí. The aim of the project is the city of Ruby to become a national and international leader in energy efficiency and renewable energy use in industrial, commercial and domestic sectors as a factor for improving the competitiveness and environmental performance of the territory. I si les depuradores d’aigua de les ciutats poguessin generar energia en comptes de consumir-ne? I si els taps de suro usats es reutilitzessin per tractar les aigües residuals de la indústria del vi o fins i tot per generar gas? I si aprofitéssim els residus de les foneries de ferro per fer rajoles ceràmiques? Les bones respostes sorgeixen quan ens sabem plantejar les preguntes adequades i això és el que han fet els responsables dels projectes ambientals que es posaran en marxa a Catalunya gràcies al programa LIFE de la UE. Cinc equips científics miraran de donar la millor resposta a aquestes i d’altres qüestions que afecten el medi ambient i els recursos naturals i que, per tant, ens afecten a tots.

Researchers from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), headed by Julián Carrera, Maria Eugenia Suárez-Ojeda and Julio Pérez, will coordinate a project within the European Union's LIFE programme to explore the feasibility of treating urban wastewater and generating energy at the same time. This is the first project in this programme to be coordinated by the UAB.

The 5th edition of WssTP annual stakeholder conference ‘Water Innovation Europe’ will take place from 21 to 23 June 2016 at the Diamant Conference Centre in Brussels. This year, Water Innovation Europe 2016 conference will revolve around the theme ‘Water-Smart for Resilient Societies’.
